Making Plans

We’re getting down to the wire.

We knew when we started conversion #2, that we would probably hit the road before it was totally done. After spending over a year on the bus, I just wasn’t prepared to stay in one place for such a long time again getting a van ready. I am itching to be back on the road!

There were a few essentials before taking off though: a bed, a toilet, running water, and a license plate.

We’ve had our mattress for a few weeks now (and are officially sleeping in the van every night), and Rett’s a YouTube certified plumber now, but there were two things on that list that I was a little worried about. 😅

One – the toilet.

Unlike our DIY composting toilet in the bus, we wanted a real-life, top-of-the-line pooper in the van. We opted for a Air Head, but we knew going in that there was at least an 8 week lead time. 🙈 We bought it at the beginning of December, and I was worried that we’d be sitting around waiting for it before we could leave. BUT the great news just came that it should be coming TOMORROW. 🙌🏻

Two – a license plate.

Y’all. When I say getting a tag for this van was a mess and a half, I am not lying. We bought it out of state and had to pay for the tag and title at the dealership (maybe that’s a Florida thing? 🤷🏼‍♀️). Anyway, the paperwork went to a third party and then to the DMV in Prattville (we’ve changed our legal address to Rett’s parents’ house – shoutout to them for keeping up with our mail!). So many phone calls later, WE HAVE A TAG.

So now we just have a little more work to do before we can really hit the road!

Next up, we have the kitchen area – countertops and the sink. And just look at these counter tops. 😍 All of my butcher block dreams are coming true!

After the kitchen is done, we’ll be installing the toilet, building a bench around our 12 volt refrigerator, and running a couple more electrical outlets. Then all that will be left is trim, and that can wait! We’ll make finishing touches on the road or when we make it back home this summer.

[Speaking of this summer, have you read our last post about our summer plans? Rett will be working at BCC, a non-profit summer camp, and part of his responsibilities are to raise his own support. If you feel lead to do so, you can donate to his funds here or by sending a check (with “for Rett Russell” in the memo line) to the Lincoln church of Christ at 760 Patton Chapel Rd. Lincoln, AL 35096. And as always, THANK YOU so much for the support! ❤️]

So that’s it! We’re so close I can taste it, and it couldn’t come soon enough. It’s been nice to be home, but I am so ready to be on the road again. 🚐

For a while, our plan has been to head out West for a few months. We could travel all around, see all the sights, and visit all of the National Parks. The other day, we started talking about COVID restrictions and if we wanted to drive all that way and not be able to do everything we want to.

So our plans are still up in the air.

But that’s the great thing about this new life we’re living. Plans can change, and we can go where the road takes us!

See you when we get there (wherever there is)…
